Hi readers!
Iām thrilled that so many of you enjoyed Doc Review ā and are interested in Documentary Club!
I have something special in mind for our first Documentary Club viewing ā coming soon to your inbox!
But first I have to tell you about a really fun documentary I watched recently āHoratioās Drive: Americaās First Road Trip.
I had just finished Citizen Hearst and was looking for something a little lighter, and this gem from the legendary Ken Burns fit the bill.
This 2003 film tells the story of the first coast to coast car trip in 1903 ā when roads were built for horses and buggies ā if they existed at all.
The story is fascinating from start to finish ā from Horatioās somewhat rash decision to undertake the task ā to how it became a nationwide phenomenon with other teams trying to catch up to Horatioās car.
Thereās even a doggie, who is extremely adorable and of course the star of the car team.
And Tom Hanks provides the voiceovers for Horatio, who led one hell of a life.
It ticks all the boxes.
This documentary is 1 hour and 45 minutes long.
PBS is currently offering Horatioās Drive on its streaming service. Itās also available on Amazon with a subscription to PBS Documentaries.
