Hi readers!
To help us all face the week ahead — I thought a little happy mood music with a bluesy edge:
As a Southerner, I have a natural affinity for the Allman Brothers — not to be confused with the poor man’s version, Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The Allman Brothers Band is a much better representation of the music of the South — a melding of cultures creating something unique and full of character.
Basically, you can tell that these white guys had some black musicians as friends, and their music is the better for it.
Unlike those good ole boys in Skynyrd droning on about their love of George Wallace.
The two things I miss the most about Memphis?
The food and the music.
Don’t get me wrong — there are a lot of amazing things that I love about Virginia.
But I’ll always miss those two things about my birthplace.
I don’t miss the heat 😂
Cabbages and Kings — part of Curd Culture — is a reader supported publication where we have fun discussions on interesting topics.
Thank you for supporting a cheese monger telling my story and sharing my love for Virginia’s history and wildlife.
If you can’t swing a paid subscription right now, you can support my work by buying me a coffee!
Ah, yes, "Jessica" is a rock-blues classic! Great way to start the week, thanks!
Great for winding down at the end of the day, as well. Thank you for introducing me to this piece, Holli!
