Hi readers!
I decided to take this week’s Music Monday in a different direction — the 2010’s.
I don’t think I’ve mentioned this about the Hilariously Grumpy Frenchman, but he has excellent taste in music, and introduced me to a ton of awesome stuff.
So my mid 2010’s musical tastes largely reflect my time hanging with that French dickhead1 at La Fromagerie.
Every time I hear this song, I picture myself dropping a cheese board at a table or sweeping after close:
For those of you who may not be familiar, Junip is a Swedish folk band whose singer is the amazing and ethereal Jose Gonzalez.
I love their chill — but with a sense of urgency — sound, and Jose’s voice is like a whisper from heaven.
The use of strings and the way this song builds to a crescendo takes it over the top for me.
Plus — I can just see myself dancing through La Fromagerie with a broom 😂
Line of Fire is my favorite of Junip’s songs — honestly, it’s one of my top 5 songs, period — but both of their albums are full of great stuff and worth a listen.
This song also reminds me of when I met The Man. I was listening to it a lot at the time and something about the lyric “no one to understand you, no one to hear your calls” really spoke to me.
We’ve had our ups and downs, but I’m so grateful for the life we’ve created together.
