Hi readers!
In the spirit of my recent post about guarding your inner peace — I thought a new feature to bring a little joy to your Monday was in order.
Music is one of the easiest ways to alter your mood — and I’m going to bring some of my all time favorites — of many genres — to this space.
And this is one of the most peaceful songs I know:
I’ve loved this song since I was a kid, and I rediscovered it in adulthood.
It was better — more musically complex — than I remembered.
The Man and I were on a road trip, and we stopped at a diner attached to an old motel of Highway 81.
The entire place felt like it hadn’t changed since the 70’s, so of course this song was playing softly on the radio.
And I remembered how much I loved it, and was creating a new memory with it.
Ever since that trip, I turn this song on whenever I want to relax.
It’s a staple on our beach playlist. In fact, if we’re down in the Outer Banks and Sailing hasn’t played by Day 3, The Man feels like something is wrong 😂
We watched the fantastic Yacht Rock1 Dockumentary on Max recently, and apparently, Christopher Cross dropped acid before he wrote Sailing.
He said it just came to him, like he was channeling it.
I guess I’m not surprised, it’s practically a perfect song.
He also won 5 Grammys in 1980 for this album.
Not too Chablis.
I love Yacht Rock. My mom listed to a lot of soft rock when I was a kid and I just have an affinity for it. How can you not love Michael McDonald? The Dockumentary is highly recommended.
I saw Christopher Cross in Perth, Australia in 1988 when our battle group pulled into there. He was playing with the Little River Band (featured band) at the Perth Opera House. The sailing song was a little more meaningful given that we had sailed there from the US. Although sailing on a US Navy ship is far less peaceful than a sailboat. :-)
The Dockumentary was fantastic, and Christopher Cross is a damn fine guitar player to boot!
