I saw Christopher Cross in Perth, Australia in 1988 when our battle group pulled into there. He was playing with the Little River Band (featured band) at the Perth Opera House. The sailing song was a little more meaningful given that we had sailed there from the US. Although sailing on a US Navy ship is far less peaceful than a sailboat. :-)
Pretty cool story, Jeff -- especially since you sailed there. I bet it was quite the time. I'm also a fan of Little River Band, "Reminiscing" is one of my faves.
For sure about LRB! Have you ever seen the video of John Farham's (LRB's 2nd lead singer) version of the Beatle's classic "Help!"? If not...you should google it..and watch the live performance. It's pretty epic.
Cool, will do. What a surprise that musicians coming up in the mid-70's were big Beatles fans along with the rest of us 😂
Speaking of The Beatles and excellent live performances, you should check out The Concert for George, put on at Royal Albert Hall in 2001, after his death. Rock and roll royalty performing all of George's songs. Also epic.
I have the deep love for Christopher Cross partly because when he came out he was this pudgy, awkward guy whose talent carried him forward. As a young pudgy and awkward person, it taught me that if you created something beautiful people would see it and see you. Then MTV came along and only pretty bands and pretty people made it to the top.
When they ran the beginning credits over the opening bars of "Ride Like the Wind", I was hooked.
Christopher Cross told some great stories, too. And just seeing the world of the late 70's is always fun to me. I was born in 1978, and it's what the world looked like when I was a kid.

The Dockumentary was fantastic, and Christopher Cross is a damn fine guitar player to boot!
Agreed! He had great musicians on his albums, too!

100% Deidre -- Video truly killed the radio star. The late 70's were the last time average looking dudes could be mainstream music stars.
I think it hurt the quality of music, frankly, once the pretty were the only ones worth hearing from.
I also uncharacteristically love Yacht Rock. The dockumentary is great!
